I want to thank you for your support. You have made a tremendous difference. Right now, over 1,000 kids are in transition homes and will go home with their new families in the next 3 weeks. That’s what I call success! Thank you for supporting this amazing process.
Your partnership with LFTI shows that you care about helping children, especially in dangerous places where a child shouldn’t be – like brothels, factories and illegal organ markets.
As part of LFTI staff, my role is to empower you to fund the freedom of these children on your heart. Together, with your generosity, we make a good team – rescuing kids out of danger, caring for them during a critical transition and placing them with a permanent family.
Your support funds critical services like medical check-ups, ID papers, counseling, and education. Once a child is rescued, indigenous staff care for children in transition homes where they learn to eat, sleep and play like a normal kid. After 6 months in LFTI’s care, they are placed into local, South Asian adoptive families.
If these children didn’t have a safe place to go, their outlook would be very grim…
In many parts of South Asia, a significant emphasis is placed on social class. Some children born into low classes or under bad circumstances are seen as outcasts, worthless and carrying “bad luck”.
Rita’s parents believed she brought curses upon their family. They sold her to a man involved in trading and smuggling children. Rita was kept in a room with little food and water, along with 14 other kids. The children were going to be euthanized in preparation for their organs to be sold on the black market. But LFTI partnered with authorities and got all 15 children to safety – including Rita.
Rita’s birth parents were found and contacted, which is rare. Most rescued children are not claimed by their families, even after being posted on the Missing Child Registry.
Sadly, her parents did not want Rita back. LFTI even offered financial help, but Rita’s father said, “No. This child is bad luck!” He explained as soon as Rita was gone from their home, he got a good job and his sick mother got better. He said,“Our lives are better without her.”
These words broke my heart. Rita was only 8 years old, but because she was considered bad luck, her parents wanted nothing to do with her.
LFTI staff cared for Rita to give her the best life possible. After 6 months of recovery, she went home with her new adoptive family.
Today, Rita has an adoptive “Amma” (mom) and “Appa” (dad). She is a happy, healthy 10-year-old girl and LFTI staff still see her with her parents every week at the local church.
Right now, LFTI estimates many kids like Rita will come into the homes this fall. We are actively building more transition homes and fundraising to prepare for these precious children.
With your help, each child will receive the same transformative support as Rita: safe housing, medical care, schooling, ID papers, trauma-informed counseling and adoption into a permanent family. This process costs only $1,385 per child.
Your support will fund critical services like seeing the doctor, eating healthy food and going to school.
Like you, my heart aches for what these children have experienced. But with your continued generosity, we can be “family” to 1,500 rescued little ones as they enter transition homes this fall.
