Please share about about Vertical Counseling, why you started it, and the heart behind your work.
Vertical Counseling is a place where people find hope, healing, and transformation. I started a counseling practice because it allows me the opportunity to reach people in Northern Colorado and see them come into the fullness of life they were created for.
Transformation is sacred ground and walking with others on that journey is my life’s work. I see myself as a sojourner on that path with clients; whether it is an interpersonal issue, transitional season, trauma, family impasse or relationship that needs mending. I utilize evidence-based behavior interventions and healing modalities rooted in spiritual truth; when combined, these often facilitate the restoration my clients are looking for. I am deeply committed to my work and enjoy watching my clients become wholehearted and mend relationally.
Tell where you’re from, where you attended school and about your family.
I grew up in Fort Collins and left this area to pursue higher education at the University of San Diego. While in California, I met my husband Steve and we pastored youth and young adults for a decade. We then relocated to my hometown to raise our sons in the beauty and pace of life Colorado affords.
We spent most of their childhood on baseball fields as Steve shared his love of the game with all of us. Those were good years on dirt, and it knit our hearts together as a family.
You specialize in many different areas, including trauma recovery. Can you share how your experiences as a therapist impacts your view of LFTI’s work with children recovering from trafficking?
As I work with clients who have experienced trauma, I am saddened by the injustice of it all. When I consider the role LFTI has in rescuing children from trafficking, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the groundwork you all do to interrupt trauma. You are living out the invitation found in Isaiah 61. I have been impressed with your team and how intentional you are with the mandate to go into the dark spaces and rescue the innocent ones.
What would you tell someone who is considering watching and supporting LFTI’s Virtual Gala on 4/22?
Steve and I wholeheartedly trust LFTI to execute the mission God has called them to. We cannot imagine a dollar better spent than rescuing children who might otherwise not have an opportunity for freedom. Partnering in prayer and supporting LFTI financially is an honor.
And just for fun: what might someone be surprised to know about you?
I am not a fan of snow…except on Christmas day. It is why I originally left Colorado for the beaches of Southern California; however, this town will draw you back in with its wonderment and good people. 🙂
