When COVID-19 hit, Life for the Innocent’s South Asia staff responded quickly so the rescued children in our care would remain healthy and thriving. Here is what LFTI is doing to keep over 1,700 kids safe during the pandemic:
Housing: To follow social distancing guidelines, we have temporarily increased the number of transition homes to reduce the number of children in each facility. Because churches are closed due to the prohibition of large gatherings, LFTI is currently using church partners’ empty buildings as extra transition homes. To further prevent any potential spread, all buildings and homes are being deep-cleaned and sanitized twice a week.
Medical Care: Each child is receiving all necessary vitamins and immunizations to improve their overall health. And praise God that so far, there are no diagnoses of the virus among LFTI children or staff.
Food: Local vendors supply each transition home with rice and eggs, and the home staff buys meat, vegetables and fruit in the marketplaces. LFTI has also received meals from local church members and parents who will be adopting children in our care.
School: All kids are homeschooling and will continue their education according to COVID-19 rules after going home with their adoptive parents.
Recovery: Because stability is so important for children recovering from trauma, the staff sticks to consistent day-to-day routines. Additionally, the children see a counselor every three days for private and group sessions.
Fun: The kids are enjoying themselves despite the pandemic. Some fun activities include coloring pictures, reading new books, and playing cricket in the courtyard!
Because of the LFTI family’s support and prayers, rescued boys and girls have a safe place to recover and stay healthy, and will start transitioning into their adoptive families in the coming months.
