Today we remember that on this day in 1865, enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed that slavery had ended – two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

With this day in mind, Life for the Innocent remains deeply committed to the work of justice. As a Christ-centered organization, LFTI believes all people bear the holy image of God. We pray for freedom, safety, and equality for every person experiencing oppression.

When the body of Christ is confronted with injustice, God calls us to press in with love and humility. Therefore, let each of us join the prophet Micah in asking, “What does the Lord require of you?” and reflecting on the answer, “to act justly, love mercy, to walk humbly with our God.”

I pray the radical love of Jesus Christ will lead each of us in the coming days and months, and for comfort for those specifically impacted and wounded during this time. The LFTI family joins those who seek justice, and we pray for an end to violence in all forms in our communities.

Juneteenth is a day to honor and celebrate racial freedom and liberation! So together, may we seek the Lord, advance in love and respect for one another, and live out the commandment to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength”, and “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:30-31).

Sincerely,

Chris S.
